‘How do you build a life with someone who ultimately wants different things from theirs?’ This is the question posited by Lexi Jeffs’ short film, Shallow Roots.
The typographic treatment across the title, credits and promotional material leverages styles which live in between; symbolising the joining and separation of two characters. Bright and formal, the flicks and flourishes of the lettering subtly hint to the title itself, reaching deftly into the descender like shallow roots.
The curtain closes with Poem Editions’ revival of Rudolf Koch’s Offenbach, it’s Roman capitals and Gothic lowercase echoing the typographic hinterland of the title card. I rounded out the text typography across the project with my work-in-progress serif.
